The decision was one I strugled with. There are many great things that can be done with WordPress, but should a business use it for their primary site? In my opinion, no – they shouldn’t. That’s not to say that businesses shouldn’t have a blog – there are so many benefits, aggregation, outgoing links, incomming links, new juicy content for search engines to scoop up, and it provides a place for anyone to voice their opinion and contribute. It boils down to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – you can’t afford to not have a blog.
When making my decision to use WordPress, the SEO capabilities were an obvious plus, but that wasn’t enough to push me over the edge. What it ultimately came down to was customer support. Every community member at Uncorrupted uses WordPress. Since I’ll be using WordPress on a daily basis as well, I’ll be better equipped to locate possible random issues with WordPress and offer solutions to the community. So, keep an eye out for lists of useful plugins, tutorials on hacking the WordPress theme files, and other useful tricks.
